This is a product review done by
someone I know. I suggested they try out the Jawbone
UP to kick start their fitness goals. This is what they have to say so far after
using it for a little less than a week…
“Someone
smarter and more knowledgeable inspired me to purchase the UP wristband through
Amazon. The device basically tracks 3 main components: movement (in
steps), sleep patterns, and food intake. For me, the most important
component is the movement tracker. I set my daily goal at 10,000 steps
(which I assume is the default) and figured that I probably did at least half
of that every day without doing anything unusual. I think I clearly misjudged
my "normal" movement. For the past 3 days I decided to go on
long 45 minute walks during lunch. Each of these walks (in rather humid
temperatures) resulted in about 5,000 steps. Additionally, I made sure
that while coaching at softball practice I moved constantly and last night
walked a fair amount around Nat’s Park. So I have achieved (at least for
3 days) my goal of 10,000 steps. Certainly, without the wristband, I
would not be doing this.
The sleep pattern charting is
remarkably accurate, I noticed waking up at 2:15am this morning (not getting
out of bed) and somehow, the band picked that up. The timing of falling
asleep and waking up were very accurate as well.
I am just trying to learn how to
use the food consumption part.
Overall, I am very satisfied
with this product and hope that it continues to inspire me.
Thanks Jess for slowly getting
me moving in the right direction!”
From what I’ve researched this is a
great product for anyone just beginning their journey towards a healthier
lifestyle. The pedometer component encourages people to be active and the app
is easy to use for any beginner food tracker. What the reviewer didn’t mention is
that the UP automatically vibrates when you’ve been stationary for too long
(you can manually change the stationary timing). For those of us who work or are studying at a
desk all day, this can be a great reminder to just get up and walk around the
office for a little. I would not recommend this to someone who does multisport
activities though as it does not accurately track them. The app allows you
manually put in multisport information but if you’re looking for something a
little more accurate, I’d check out a heart rate monitor.
If you’re interested in purchasing
a Jawbone UP you should definitely check
out their website and look at a few more customer reviews from Amazon.
